Located in downtown Encinitas is a little Peruvian restaurant Q’ero which serves up some delightful Peruvian dishes. The place itself is pretty small so reservation is highly recommended. We saw quite a few folks turned away without reservations even though there were empty tables that remained empty the whole time we were there.
Q’ero was filled with decorations that you would find when you travel to Peru. It makes the place very quaint. On our table was our name handwritten on a piece of paper with chalk which was a nice touch.
This was our first time having Peruvian food so didn’t know what to expect. One thing that was in common with the Peruvian dishes that we ordered was that the dishes were full of flavor with lots of spices. The dishes were spicy as well but not too bad. There wasn’t an option to specify the level of spiciness. One common factor that we didn’t like was that it seemed a bit too salty. Also one of the dishes wasn’t hot when it arrived.
Overall Q’ero was a good dining experience despite the saltiness of the dishes. Maybe this is common with Peruvian dishes. I guess we’ll have to travel to Peru to try the real thing and perhaps make some trips to Mach Picchu.
