We are working our way down the list of Los Angeles Weekly’s Top 10 Soup Dumplings top 10 soup dumpling restaurants. After trying #1 on the list with Din Tai Fung, we decided to move on to #2 on the list with Emperor Noodle located in San Gabriel.
We had to try the XLB here and see how it compared with Din Tai Fung. Unfortunately the XLB wasn’t quite as good. A few of the XLB were punctured when it came out.
Luckily Emperor Noodle had some dishes on the menu besides XLB. A fantastic dish is the braised pork which was served in a huge clay pot was layered on top of some hard boiled eggs. It’s a big serving enough for four people.
The pan fried pork bun was probably one of my favorite dishes. The buns were filled with meat and soup and then pan fried where it was crispy at the bottom. We would have ordered more if we weren’t so stuffed.
As a starter, we ordered the pork kidney which was stir fried. This dish was okay.
The beef noodle soup had great flavor but the noodle was a little overcooked for me.
May have to come back again to Emperor Noodle before moving on to #3 on the list.
